Windows and Mac are rivals since their genesis. They are different in design, different in technology, different in file formats, different in every aspect they can. Of course both have their advantages in being different but we the users sometimes fall in the crossfire when we have both of them and they don’t cooperate with each other.
Mac users may have faced the problem when AVI (Audio Video Interleave) files refuse to play in Mac. Same problem happens to the Windows users when QuickTime files won’t play in the Windows. Needless to say that AVI is a container format introduced and used by Windows and QuickTime is a container format introduces and used by Apple.
Well these problems can be solved by installing the right components for the Operating System. Windows users can download and install video codec (for example K-lite mega codec pack) which will install the codec for Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic that comes with the K-lite codec pack. Mac users have to download and install the Perian QuickTime component to play AVI on Mac. As AVI is a container format it may contain WMV video inside. In that case you will have to install Microsoft Flip4Mac QuickTime component. If the video plays but not the audio then probably the AVI contain AC3 audio in which case you will have to install AC3 Codec X components.
Those are a lot of work just to play some videos and you will get more disappointed when you will find out that you can only play those videos with all those above mentioned components installed, but you cannot import and use those video on software like iMovie or iDVD. So, what to do now? After all those downloading and installing components you cannot use the videos on iMovie or iDVD. Same goes for the Windows users. With the codec install you can only play the MOV files, but you cannot edit them with Windows Movie Maker.
Again if you own other Apple products such as iPhone, iPad or iPod you won’t be able to even play those videos because you cannot install any components in those devices. You just have to have the videos in QuickTime supported formats which is MOV, MP4 or M4V. So, what is the solution for that?
Well solution is there. You have to use a converter to convert the video format in video formats that are supported by those platforms. If you got an AVI file and you want it accessible in your Apple devices you have to convert that AVI into MOV, MP4 or M4V. Then you can use them on Mac, any Mac software and iPhone, iPad and iPod. If you got a MOV file and you want it to be accessible for all Windows based devices and software, you have to convert MOV to AVI file.
Well, that is all fine but which converter to use? There are a lot of converter available on the Internet which are designed for Windows and Mac but they many of them have problems. Some heavily decrease the video quality; some makes the audio and video go out of sync, some makes the screen hazy or grainy and some converter does all of them. That is obviously something you will never want. So, you better use a converter that is well reputed and do exactly what you want. iSkysoft has a very good video converter that is known for its swift conversion, batch conversion of videos, quality maintenance, video editing facilities and wide range of video format supports. It is also available for both Windows and Mac. So, no matter what platform you use, you can always convert the videos for other platforms.
