I can honestly say that until I started researching car air purifiers, I never thought about the necessity of a car purifier. I never even knew there were car air purification systems. But, after some research and evaluating statistics and facts, I have concluded that I am currently in the market for a car air purifier for the protection of myself and my family. However, I am in the market for one that works properly and is safe for me and my family.

Most people don't realize that driving our cars to and from work, can be a very toxic activity. For example, a busy interstate corridor has many sources of pollution; gas and diesel exhaust fumes, various particulates, pollen, cigarette smoke, bacteria, carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds. The air that is flowing through a typical auto's interior is far from pure. Your cabin air filter that most people reluctantly replace during the oil change can only stop a few things.

Living near a corridor with over 20,000 cars a day creates a six-fold increase in the risk of cancerous tumors.

Lung disease increases are seen in people living within 500 yards of a major roadway.

Even the highway itself is harmful considering the frequent repainting and repairing. Also, the outgassing of solvents from the asphalt.

Latex particles, a growing asthma/allergy concern, are recycled and used in the asphalt.

Lead chromate, which is known to be lethal to humans-, has been used as pigment for yellow lines.

While most cars do have their own air filtering system, they tend to be restricted and/or modified and not nearly as thorough and effective as an exclusive car air purifier.

Built in filters refrain from circulating or cleaning the air that is already inside the car.

Car air purifiers are extremely important for people with respiratory diseases, asthma, allergies, and hypersensitivity issues.

Car air purifiers will use any of the following filtering formats (dependant on the manufacturer):

Small HEPA filter,

Carbon filter

Ozone generator

Air ionizer

Most models utilize either ozone or ionic technology; these are not the best choices due to fact that ozone is harmful in high concentrations, but these units don't need a fan, which is convenient. You will have a hard time finding one that is HEPA and carbon for your car though because it hasn't quite become popular enough.

→Ozone Car Air Purifier: efficient for removing odors, gases, cigarette smoke, exhaustion fumes from cars. Excesses of ozone in the air can cause throat irritation, watery eyes and other problems.

→Ionic Car Air Purifier: efficient versus dust, bacteria, pollen, dander, smoke and gases. As air rushes over the metal car exterior, negative charges are stripped away from the molecules thus building up a positive ion environment inside the car.

→You can often find car air purifier units that come with an assortment of nice smelling fragrances that will not only clean the air and make it healthier, but they will help to add a fresh smell to your car or truck.

→You can also use your car air purifier in your home if you like, but it is not as effective as a regular home air purifier. They are not designed to purify a large area, but if you have small space in your home or maybe at work you could get more use out of your unit.
